COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

Yes, Lukas Nelson is Willie Nelson’s son, but he’s certainly earned his own turn in the spotlight. Two years ago when SPAC hosted Farm Aid, Lukas and his band Promise of the Real delivered the rockin’-est set of the star-studded fest, and earlier this year they served as Neil Young’s backing band on his album, The Monsanto Years and his subsequent national tour. They return to Saratoga at 9pm on Saturday, November 14, playing at Putnam Den. Tickets are $15 in advance; $17 at the door.
Rosanne Cash is headed into Club Helsinki in Hudson at 8pm on Sunday, January 17. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $65 & $125.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Umphrey’s McGee returns to the Palace Theatre in Albany with Tauk opening the show. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (October 23).
Dobro virtuoso Cindy Cashdollar – who has played with such legends as bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Rod Stewart – kicks off next month’s calendar at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs with a 7pm concert on Sunday, November 1. Tickets are $25 in advance; $27 at the door.
Funkin’ it up for free… 420 Funk Mob (featuring Parliment/Funkadelic’s Mike Hampton) and Drugs (led by P-Funk’s Gary Shider, Lige Curry and Clip Payne) team up for a free concert/dance party at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 9pm on Saturday, November 7. Also newly announced for Bearsville is David Bromberg at 8pm on Saturday, November 28 ($20, $35 & $45). And at 8:30pm on Tuesday, December 29, Professor Louie & the Crowmatix celebrate the music of the Band’s Rick Danko ($15).
The Arkells return to town for a free show at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Saturday, December 12. With Hard Soul opening.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida! The Surprise Concert Announcement of the Week comes from the fine folks at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, who will welcome Iron Butterfly in concert at 7pm on Monday, December 14. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door. Other new shows headed into the Iron Horse include Catie Curtis at 7pm on Saturday, April 2 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); Susan Werner at 7pm on Sunday, April 3 ($22.50 in advance; $25 at the door); the Bill Charlap Trio at 7pm on Thursday, April 14 ($22.50 in advance; $25 at the door); David Lindley at 7pm on Wednesday, April 20 ($20 in advance; $25 at the door); and Kathy Matea featuring Bill Cooley at 7pm on Friday, April 29 ($35 in advance; $40 at the door).
The Royal Concept teams up with Parade of Lights for a doubleheader at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 8pm on Saturday, November 14. Tickets are $10.27 in advance; $15 at the door. Also at the Hollow, Skizzy Mars takes over on Sunday, December 6, with Kool John & P-Lo opening at 8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: New concerts on the fall calendar for Troy’s Sanctuary for Independent Media include Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project ($20), the Tani Tabbal Trio ($10) and Satoko Fujii & Tobira ($15).
The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield has added a handful of new concerts, including Berkshire Musicians Tribute to Neil Young (led by Rev Tor, David Grover and Steve Ide) at 7:30pm on Saturday, January 23 ($26 & $36); Beatlemania Again at 7:30pm on Saturday, February 13 ($29.50 & $39.50); and classic prog-rockers Kansas playing a benefit concert for Life Without Limits at 7:30pm on Saturday, March 26 ($45, $80 & $105).
In support of her recently released debut album, Midnight, Grace Potter is scheduled to step into the spotlight at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton at 8pm on Thursday, December 3 ($35 & $45). Also newly announced for the Calvin is Gaelic Storm, who take the stage in support of their new album Matching Sweaters, at 8pm on Saturday, February 27 ($26 & $36). Tickets for both new concerts go on sale on Friday (October 23).
SOLD OUT: The concert by Aztec Two-Step with Monty Delaney at 8pm on Friday (October 23) at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs is now officially sold out.
Pianist-composer Andy Iorio celebrates the release of his sophomore album, II, with a solo piano performance at Proctors’ GE Theatre in Schenectady at 7pm on Thursday, November 12. Tickets are $17.50.
Vapor in Saratoga Springs plays host to the Tenors at 2pm on Saturday, November 14. Tickets are $10, and it’s a benefit concert for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
The West Point Jazz Knights Band is returning to WAMC-FM’s The Linda at 7pm on Saturday, December 19. Tickets are FREE, but you can make reservations by emailing Graeme McKenna at [email protected].
OPENERS: Frank Palangi will open for Starset at the Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park at 8pm on Friday, October 30… Gedeon Luke & the People have been tapped as the opening act for the Revivalists at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9pm on Thursday, November 5… Vancouver indie folk singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop opens for Vanessa Carlton at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday, December 3.
