Twice a year – during the months of April and October – the Albany Public Library’s Main Branch presents its Silent Film Spectacular series, which features Greater Nippertown musicians performing live original scores to accompany the screening of vintage silent film classics.

The instrumental trio Nelson Esposito Quintana – augmented by percussionist Bob Resnick – took on the 1913 gem “A Message From Mars,” often cited as the first British science-fiction film. And in true jazz fashion, they played their soundtrack totally improvisationally.

The Silent Film Spectacular continues tonight with the classic 1925 Rin Tin Tin film, “Clash of the Wolves” with Albany’s fave surf-centric rockers Kimono Dragons providing the music. The screening will be held in the large auditorium of the Albany Public Library Main Branch at 7pm tonight. Admission is free.
