Donna McKechnie Opens the Cabaret Season @ Barrington Stage Co. [Berkshire on Stage]

Donna McKechnie, the Tony Award-winning star of A Chorus Line, returns to Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield to open Mr. Finn’s Cabaret season with “Same Place: Another Time” at 8pm on Sunday and Monday evenings (May 22 & 23). Tickets are $52.

Regarded as one of Broadway’s foremost dancing and singing leading ladies, McKechnie returns to BSC in her new show, a musical déjà vu celebrating the scintillating ’70s in New York City – the heyday of Studio 54. She takes a personal spin on the “ingénue” coming to NYC, finding love and success and losing her innocence perhaps, but never her spirit.

McKechnie was featured in BSC’s starry revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies” in 2005, garnering a personal rave from New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley.

Stephen Holden of the The New York Times caught McKechnie at 54 Under and described “Same Place: Another Time” as a show that is “sprinkled with songs about New York, including Portia Nelson’s ‘Confessions of a New Yorker,’ a bouncy list of urban complaints and pleasures that has hardly aged a day in three decades. For all the upheaval New York has undergone in the nearly four decades since ‘A Chorus Line,’ Ms. McKechnie’s show suggests that its essence hasn’t really changed; it’s the ‘big time.’”
