FREE FEST: The Enchanted City in Troy This Weekend
Now in its third year, the Enchanted City is an urban street fair and spectacle of steampunk fashion, fantasy and fabrications that magically transforms the historic blocks of downtown Troy into an alternative reality where Victorian fancy meets modern technology.
“The Enchanted City is a real life fairy tale that you can experience and even become a character in if you wish,” said Enchanted City creator Susan Dunckel of Sweet Sue’s. “It’s a steampunk Brigadoon that we wait for all year.”
After kicking off tonight (Friday, August 26) with a fashion show, the free fest takes place on Saturday (August 27), offers an imaginative, family-friendly day of music, games, performance, food and fantasy. Special events include historic tours, street performers and peddlers, storytelling, dancing, puppet shows, magic acts and more, including:
TROY MINI MAKER FAIRE @ the Tech Valley Center of Gravity: Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, a Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these makers come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.
CHAMBERLAIN’S INVENTORS’ CHALLENGE: With a grand prize of $4,000.
POWER TOOL DRAG RACE: Yup, it’s just what it sounds like…
Adults and children are encouraged to come dressed in steampunk-themed costumes or as fairies. Attendance has grown each year, from 1,000 in 2014 to 4,000 last year.
In addition to the free festivities, there are also a couple of ticketed events taking place in conjunction with the Enchanted City activities:
