Win FREE Tickets to Fantastic Negrito @ Cohoes Music Hall on Thursday

Serving up a fresh brace of cracklin’ neo-blues, Fantastic Negrito plays the Cohoes Music Hall on Thursday (October 13).

Hailing from the Bay Area, Fantastic Negrito’s back story reads like the script for a Hollywood bio-pic. He was born Xavier Dphrepaulezz to an orthodox Muslim family. Raised in the Berkshires. Moved to Oakland, where things went bad, ending in a near-death encounter with a masked gunman.

Signed with Prince’s manager, nailed down a major label record deal, and in 1996 released his debut album, The X Factor as Xavier. It was a bomb.

He quit music.

Was in a near-fatal car accident in 2000 that left him in a coma for three weeks. Following his recovery and the birth of his son, he turned back to writing music, and claimed the name Fantastic Negrito.

In 2015, he won NPR’s inaugural Tiny Desk Concert Contest and, subsequently, received critical acclaim for his self-titled EP, followed by his stunning, sprawling, uncompromising album debut, The Last Days of Oakland.

Fantastic Negrito takes over the stage at the Cohoes Music Hall on Thursday. And soul-rockin’ Delmartian Bryan Thomas (simply Greater Nippertown’s finest singer-songwriter, in our humble opinion) opens the show at 8pm. Priced at $26 & $32, tickets are on sale now.

BUT WAIT… Have we got a deal for you! We’re giving away a pair of FREE TICKETS for the show to a lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win.
