Last month’s seventh annual PearlPalooza was quite possibly the best one yet with perfect early-autumn weather and a cavalcade of great bands graced both stages throughout the day.

The Los Angeles quartet Warpaint – vocalist-guitarists Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman, bassist-vocalist Jenny Lee Lindberg and drummer-keyboardist-vocalist Stella Mozgawa – turned PearlPalooza into a big CD release party for their new album, Heads Up, on the Rough Trade label.

And New Orleans favorites Galactic turned PearlPalooza into a massive, full-fledged dance party led by the Crescent City backbeat of drummer Stanton Moore. The quintessential Big Easy band served up a veritable gumbo of spicy sounds from jam to jazz, revitalizing the classic street-strut of the Meters. And when singer Erica Falls stepped up to the microphone, well, the funk just boiled over…

Rounding out the fab, free, street-fest festivities were Nashville’s Bassh (featuring Jimmy Brown and CJ Hardee), Rochester’s Maybird (slated for a return in town at Jupiter Hall on November 18), Kansas City’s the Greeting Committee and Greater Nippertown’s own garage-popsters Rechorduroys.

Ah yes, a grand time was had by one and all…
