Martine Syms: The Unreliable Narrator @ EMPAC, Troy. Martine Syms will introduce a program of videos by herself and others, alongside a discussion of moving images that have been influential to her work exploring blackness as a topic, reference, marker and audience in visual culture.

Hanna-Barbera: The Architects Of Saturday Morning @ Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge. The first museum exhibition on the world’s most successful animation partnership, providing a glimpse of the extraordinary story of how two astute businessmen reacted to a dying film animation industry and revolutionized a new format for their product, while hiring the best talent in the business, and exploring how their product transformed over the years. A Certain Romance @ Courthouse Gallery, Lake George. A solo exhibition of paintings by Fabian Lopez that overlap representation with abstraction, weaving together stories he has either heard or read with his own personal experience. Know Justice @ Ferrin Contemporary, North Adams. A two-person show by Justin and Brooke Rothshank focusing on American politics, the Supreme Court, and presidential history. Brooke’s miniature watercolor portraits are complemented by Justin’s decal-printed tableware. (Through November 12)

3rd Annual Juried Regional Art Exhibition @ Spencertown Academy Arts Center, Spencertown. The Academy’s third annual regional art show features 40 artists from the area working in disciplines from oil and watercolor to sculpture and fiber art. (Through November 13)

Bar-Carolle @ Hudson Opera House, Hudson. In this unique residency, contemporary artist Zoé Bellot transforms decayed pianos that have resided in the Opera House’s upstairs theater for decades into one of a kind piano bars and magical operatic shadowboxes. Also on view is Bellot’s Bon Voyage!, a series of crafted music boxes inspired by popular myths, proverbs, poems and other writings. (Through November 13)

2016 Screenprint Biennial @ Collar Works and The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. An event that showcases a range of screenprint-based art applications, from framed, editioned prints to installation, sculpture, video, ephemera and posters. This juried exhibition includes two large-scale exhibitions as well as a temporary site-specific work created by Providence, Rhode Island based artist Ian Cozzens at Oakwood Community Center. (Through December 23)

Spotlight: Alexander Hamilton @ Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. Founding father Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804) first visited Albany in 1777 to speak to General Horatio Gates on behalf of George Washington. Three years later he married Elizabeth Schuyler in the parlor of her Albany home, the Pastures, now known as Schuyler Mansion. For the next 20 years, Hamilton was connected to Albany traveling to the city to visit his in-laws and conducting legal business. This exhibition highlights objects related to Alexander Hamilton from the Institute’s collection with a few significant loans including a portrait of him by Ezra Ames courtesy of Union College Permanent Collection. The Art of Seating @ Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. An exhibition of more than forty chairs, from the early nineteenth century to the present day, each chosen for its beauty and historical context with important social, economic, political and cultural influences. (Through December 31)

Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region @ The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls. The 80th annual Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region exhibition, curated by Michael Oatman, includes 126 works from 106 artists and stretches the boundaries of the regional art show. (Through December 31)

Transforming The Hyde @ The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls. Selections from the recent gift of modern art from the collection of Werner Feibes and the late James Schmitt will be exhibited. The gift represents a remarkable group of paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, and sculpture by many of the world’s leading modern artists, including Josef Albers, Sol LeWitt, Grace Hartigan, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Motherwell, Bridget Riley and David Smith, among others. (Through December 31)

Remy Jungerman creates sculptural relief works which bring to mind modernist architecture, beams, window lintels, tracks and building blocks. Nicole Cherubini’s there is a road is an exhibition of new work that frames her exploration of sculptural properties and processes. (Though Januuary 1)

A More Perfect Union @ The Tang, Saratoga Springs. The first exhibition of Flag Exchange, a multi-year project by conceptual and social interventionist artist Mel Ziegler. With a stock of new American flags in his trunk, Ziegler traveled to all 50 states collecting worn American flags, exchanging the old for the new and, in the process, mimicking the actions of a political candidate, arriving, making a connection and then moving on. The space will also feature a large stage where a series of debates, lectures, performances and more will explore the upcoming election cycle and the role of democracy today. (Through January 1)

Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison @ The Center for Photography at Woodstock, Woodstock. An exhibit of 14 images from the pivotal series, The Architect’s Brother and Counterpoint by Saratoga Springs photographers Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison. (Through January 8)

State of Disobedience @ Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown. An exhibition that brings together works in a range of media that speak to the power of art to provoke unexpected and contradictory responses, including works by Matthew Ronay, Barkley Hendricks, Mary Ellen Mark, Patty Chang, Glenn Ligon and others. (Through January 15)

Being the Measure @ Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown. David Zink Yi’s first museum exhibition in the United States brings together his work in sculpture, photography, music, and video. Marking his foray into live performance, it fuses his interests in Afro-Caribbean music and cephalopod mollusks. (Through February 12)

Rock and Roll Icons: Photographs by Patrick Harbron @ Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. An exhibition taken from Capital region resident Patrick Harbron’s body of concert and portrait photography of influential musicians and groups of the 1970’s and 1980’s, captured at pivotal moments, such as Blondie, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and Elvis Costello. He followed these artists to prominence and others that were already well known including The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Queen, The Who, Genesis, KISS, U2, Aerosmith, and Prince. The exhibition will include Harbron’s collection of posters and ephemera gathered throughout his career along with guitars borrowed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Through February 12)

Sixfold Symmetry: Pattern in Art and Science @ The Tang , Saratoga Springs. An exhibition of contemporary and historical art, artifacts, and material culture exploring the human desire to use and create pattern to understand the world around us. (Through March 12)

By the Patterns @ Mandeville Gallery, Schenectady. Kira Nam Greene, the fourth featured artist in the gallery’s Art Installation Series, has installed her patternist collages. (Through March)

Active Turn: The Devil’s Wheel @ Art Omi, Ghent. Photographers Kahn + Selesnick have created a new work for use in Freya Powell’s zoetrope. (Through May 28)

Concinnitas Portfolio @ Mandeville Gallery, Schenectady. A portfolio of ten fine art aquatint prints featuring equations, expressions or formulas transcribed by ten notable mathematicians and physicists, in response to the prompt to record their ‘most beautiful mathematical expression.’ Each image was hand-drawn by each of the following participants: Sir Michael Atiyah, Enrico Bombieri, Simon K. Donaldson, Freeman Dyson, Murray Gell-Mann, Richard Karp, Peter Lax, David Mumford, Stephen Smale and Steven Weinberg. (Through August 2018)
