COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park has added a handful of new concerts to the summer mix, including the Naked and Famous with Stellar Young at 8pm on Sunday, June 11 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door); Born of Osiris with Volumns, Betraying the Martyrs and Widowmaker at 7:30pm on Wednesday, July 19 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door); and looking ahead to the fall, YouTube faves Timeflies at 8pm on Thursday, October 12 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hometown hitmakers Phantogram are headed back to Greater Nippertown, this time around playing a big outdoor concert at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds with Tycho and Heathered Pearls in support. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (May 19).

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS: The bad news first – the concert by bluegrass faves the Lonely Heartstring Band originally scheduled for the Cock ‘n Bull in Galway on Sunday, May 28, has been postponed to Thursday, June 22. Now the good news – the Cock ‘n Bull will still be celebrating its 41st anniversary on Sunday, May 28 with very special duo performance by banjo master Tony Trischka and guitarist-vocalist Michael Daves. The $40 ticket price includes dinner from 4-6pm, followed by the 7pm concert.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Rockin’ on the River concert series in Troy’s Riverfront Park has announced its 10-concert season, including Deerhoof, Saintseneca, Almost Queen, Rumours, Who’s Bad, the British Invasion Experience and local faves Sirsy, Skeeter Creek, Alex Torres & His Latin Band and Taina Asili y La Banda Rebelde.

Bearsville Theater in Woodstock is hosting its ninth annual Bob Dylan Birthday Celebration at 8pm on Sunday, May 28. The benefit for Family of Woodstock’s Crisis Hotline and the John Herald Fund for Musicians in need features some of the finest Hudson Valley musicians interpreting the songs of Bob Dylan. This year’s line-up features Kate Pierson, Larry Campbell, Amy Helm, Marshall Crenshaw, Cindy Cashdollar, Jay Collins, Jonah Smith, Simi Stone, Zack Djanikian, Connor Kennedy, Will Bryant, Brandon Morrison, Lee Falco and more TBA. Tickets are on sale now priced at $25, $45 & $65.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg announced three new concerts – Gillian Welch, Robert Earl Keen and the return of Renaissance. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (May 19).

Blues-rockin’ behemoth Popa Chubby is slated to rumble into the Upper Room in Albany at 8pm on Friday, September 22 in support of his latest album, I’m Feelin’ Lucky. Tickets are $15 & $25 and are now on sale.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Horn-fueled hitmakers Earth, Wind & Fire will be blowing back into the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Comedian JB Smoove opens. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (May 19).

If you missed Adrian Belew’s sold-out show at The Egg last week (or if you just want more), Belew will be joined by Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and friends at the newly re-opened Colony in Woodstock at 8pm on Friday, August 11. On sale now, tickets are $30 in advance; $35 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Will they make you so very happy? The current incarnation of Blood, Sweat & Tears featuring “American Idol runner-up Bo Bice headline the free Outdoor Music Festival at the Saratoga Casino Hotel in Saratoga Springs. Local 58 faves Skeeter Creek and Grand Central Station round out the bill.

The three sisters of the maverick classical Ahn Trio (Lucia on the piano, Angella on the violin and Maria on the cello) will perform the works of David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Prince and others at Club Helsinki in Hudson at 7pm on Sunday, June 11. Tickets are $20 & $25. Also new on the Helsinki concert calendar are New Orleans-based roots quintet The Deslondes at 9pm on Friday, July 14 ($15); the country-meets-R&B band Western Centuries (featuring Donna the Buffalo co-founder Jim Miller) at 9pm on Friday, July 21 ($15); and the return of singer-songwriter Martin Sexton at 9pm on Saturday, December 2 ($TBA).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Comedian-humorist Paula Poundstone is returning to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (May 19).

Backed by a seven-piece band Gene Ween Does Billy Joel at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, August 12. On sale now, tickets are $35 & $45.

OPENERS: Troy’s own super power trio Super 400 is opening the show for Ana Popovic at the Cohoes Music Hall on May 23… The National Reserve has been tapped to open for Whitney at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, May 27… In support of her new EP, Give It to Me, LA singer-songwriter Miya Folick will open for Foster the People at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown at 7pm on Saturday, June 10.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: “Dancing With the Stars” star Cheryl Burke brings her “Love on the Floor” dance performance to the Palace Theatre with Meryl Davis & Charlie White, the 2014 Olympic Gold Medal winning Ice Dance duo.
