EVENT: Natalie Merchant @ Kleinert James Arts Center, Woodstock. The former 10,000 Maniacs frontwoman celebrates the release of her 10-CD box set, The Natalie Merchant Collection, with an interview, an audience Q&A, a box set signing and a short performance. 7pm. FREE.
THEATER: “Ragtime” @ Washington Park Lakehouse Stage, Albany. Based on E.L. Doctorow’s acclaimed novel, “Ragtime” is a soaring, epic, culturally-important musical chronicling the lives of three families from three different worlds at the start of the 20th Century in pursuit of the American Dream. 8pm. MUSIC: Arturo O’Farrill Quintet @ Maverick Concerts, Woodstock. The Jazz at the Maverick concert series kicks off with a family affair – the five-time Grammy Award-winning pianist is joined by his sons, drummer Zack and trumpeter Adam (who led his own band at Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival last weekend), as well as bassist Bambam Rodriquez and saxophonist Livio Almeida. 8pm. $30 & $55; $5 students.
THEATER: “Nikola Tesla Drops the Beat” @ Wood Theater, Glens Falls. Last chance! An electronic pop musical by Nikko Benson & Benjamin Halstead. Directed by Marshall Pailet, the Adirondack Theatre Festival’s season-opening production turns up the volume on one of history’s most influential and controversial innovators, Nikola Tesla. 1pm & 7:30pm. $34-$45.
