FREE: Local 518 Compilation Album “WEXT 10”

When the fine folks at WEXT-FM (Exit 97.7) woke up last Friday, they knew it was going to be a special day. It was the tenth anniversary of the radio station’s first broadcast and a big party was planned with members of Super 400, Jocelyn & Chris Arndt, Ramblin Jug Stompers and Gordon St, as well as singer-songwriters M.R. Poulopoulos, Bryan Thomas, Mike Grutka and others all dropping by the station to play live on the air.

What they didn’t know, however, was that there was a big present waiting for them in their email in-box – WEXT 10, a surprise compilation album featuring 14 of Greater Nippertown’s best bands covering other Local 518 bands.

And it wasn’t just a present for WEXT. It was for all of us. That’s right, you can stream and download it for free

Compiled anonymously by “the Super Secret 518,” the album features such intriguing pairings as Bryan Thomas covering Belle-Skinner, Swamp Baby covering Bryan Thomas, Stellar Young covering Sawyer Fredericks, Sawyer Fredericks covering MaryLeigh Roohan… You get the idea.

Here’s the complete track listing for WEXT 10. Enjoy:

The Sea The Sea: “Weekend in Western NY” (the Kamikaze Hearts)
Bear Grass: “Black Fruit Memory” (Scientific Maps)
Bryan Thomas: “We Shut Our Eyes” (Belle-Skinner)
Kimono Dragons: “Binary Girl” (the Mathematicians)
Stellar Young: “4 Pockets” (Sawyer Fredericks)
Titanics: “The More” (Carl Daniels)
Cannon the Brave: “Subtle Flaws” (Jump Cannon)
Rebel Darling: “Lazy Make” (Bear Grass)
Rodeo Barons: “City Hall” (Que Caro)
Ashley Sofia: “Guess It Was” (The Sea The Sea)
The North & South Dakotas: “Weight/Wait” (Olivia Quillio)
The Parlor: “I Just Want To Feel Okay” (The Firs)
Swamp Baby: “Perfect” (Bryan Thomas)
Sawyer Fredericks: “My Surrender” (MaryLeigh Roohan)

Happy Birthday to WEXT! Thanks for helping to keep the Local 518 music scene alive and thriving. And thanks to the Super Secret 518 (whoever you are) and all the Greater Nippertown musicians who lent their time and talent to the project.
