COMIN’ SOON: New Concert Announcements

It’s the return of the masked twangmasters! Yes, led by guitarslinger and Rensselaer native Eddie Angel, Los Straitjackets are headed into at the Hangar on the Hudson in Troy at 8pm on Tuesday, August 22. Tickets are on sale now, priced at $20.

Another ex-Local 518er returning to Greater Nippertown, sublime vocalist Happy Rhodes leads the Security Project – an all-star Peter Gabriel tribute band also featuring drummer Jerry Marotta, keyboardist David Jameson and guitarists Trey Gunn and Michael Cozzi – into the Van Dyck in Schenectady for two shows (6:30 & 8:30pm) on Saturday, November 11. Also new on the Van Dyck calendar is the Alex Skolnick Trio at 8pm on Friday, October 6. Tickets for each of the new shows are $18 in advance; $22 at the door.

Sihasin, a rock band featuring brother and sister Jeneda & Clayson Benally of Arizona’s Navajo Nation, will make a stop at The Post Contemporary in Troy to perform a concert and talk about their work in social justice and the arts for the protection of Native American sacred sites, native rights and environmental justice. Hosted by Taina Asili, the event will take place at 7pm on Monday (July 17). Admission is $10 with proceeds going to Sihasin and the Arts in Action Committee.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Egg announced four new concerts: Paula Cole, Cowboy Junkies, the Fab Faux and the Mountain Snow Orchestra with the McKrells. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Friday (July 14).

In support of their upcoming album, Offering, Cults will be making a tour stop at the Hollow Bar + Kitchen in Albany at 9pm on Thursday, October 19. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday (July 14), priced at $13.27 for the first 102 tickets; $20 thereafter.

Willie Watson, a founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show, is headed into Club Helsinki at 9pm on Friday, October 27. Ticket info TBA.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Palace Theatre announced a new solo concert by Regina Spektor. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday (July 14).

That 1 Guy brings his Magic Pipe and whatever else is in his bag of magical, musical tricks to the Parish Public House in Albany at 8pm on Friday, September 22. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

A truly one-of-a-kind comedian Maria Bamford is slated to make a tour stop at the Academy of Music in Northampton at 8pm on Friday, October 6. Tickets are $35. Also at the Academy, Peter Wolf & the Midnight Travelers rock the house at 8pm on Friday, October 13. Tickets are $35 & $45.

In support of his latest album, Through Private Wars, singer-songwriter James Hearne rolls into Colony in Woodstock on Saturday, October 21. The Whispering Tree kick off the evening at 8pm. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Comedian Mike Epps is headed into the Palace Theatre this fall. Tickets go on sale at 10am Friday (July 14).

Local 518 singer-songwriter-pianist Talia Denis will play a free show at Proctors’ Robb Alley in Schenectady at 9:30pm on Friday (July 14) as the Schenectady SummerNight after-party.

The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton has added Frankie Cosmos with Ian Sweet to its calendar at 8:30pm on Wednesday, October 4. Tickets go on sale Friday, priced at $15 in advance; $18 at the door.

UPDATE: Although it was initially announced as a pavilion-only show, lawn tickets – priced at $20 – are now available for the Moody Blues concert at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Sunday (July 16).

Proctors in Schenectady is hosting the Memories of Elvis Show featuring Patrick Johnson & the Raised on Rock Band at 7pm on Saturday (July 15). Tickets are $25 & $30.

OPENERS: Ruston Kelly will open for Robert Earl Keen at The Egg at 7:30pm on Tuesday (July 18)… Marc Delgado opens for Hamell on Trial at Colony in Woodstock at 8pm on Sunday, July 23… Young blues-rock guitarslinger Quinn Sullivan – who played Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival last month – is headed back to town to open for Buddy Guy at The Egg at 7:30pm on Tuesday, August 15… Billy Keane has snagged the opening spot for Sean Rowe at Colony in Woodstock at 8pm on Saturday, September 16.
