The Members’ Show @ Albany Center Gallery, Albany. Works by more than 150 local and regional artists. Opening reception: Friday, December 15, 5-8pm.

Exhbition by the Guild of Berkshire Artists @ Berkshire Botanical Garden, Stockbridge. More than 70 images of botanical art and landscapes, including photography, watercolors, giclée prints, oil on canvas and ceramics, will be on display representing 29 artists of the Guild. Kenro Izu: Sacred Places @ Aaron Rezny 76 Prince Street Studios, Kingston. The Center for Photography at Woodstock presents this special exhibition of photographic works by Kenro Izu as well as a fundraiser including a flash sale of a special edition print, raffle and more. Proceeds from the special edition benefit CPW’s artist programs. Saturday, December 16, 3-6pm.

When We Were Young: Rethinking Abstraction from the University at Albany Art Collections (1967-present) @ University Art Museum, Albany. An exhibition that shines a fresh light on late-Modernist abstraction as it relates to current trends in contemporary art; artists include Josef Albers, Max Bill, Jack Bosson, Chryssa, Gene Davis, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Michael Kidner, Kim Lim, Luis Molinari-Flores, Henry Pearson and Peter Taylor among others. Art Foray @ Mohonk Mountain House, High Falls. Close to 40 local artists and artisans have been invited to show their unique creative works, including fine art paintings, sculptural creations, fine art photographs, ceramics of many types from tiles to porcelain, glass work, wood work and jewelry. Sunday, December 10 – Tuesday, December 12 and Thursday, December 14 – Friday, December 15, 10-6 daily.

After Some Time @ Matteawan Gallery, Beacon. This solo exhibition by Thomas Huber includes paintings and new multimedia works on paper that feature three-dimensional elements such as folded paper, pieces of burlap, thick gesso and copper wire, as well as a new painting that is a collaboration between Huber and the artist Orly Cogan. (Through December 17)

Gone Here @ September Gallery, Hudson. Sheila Gallagher’s meditation on healing and haunting includes a shrine, videos, plastic paintings, lace drawings and 789 anatomical fragments. (Through December 23)

So It Would Seem @ The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. Works by Laura Christensen, Steve Rein, Robert Guille and Anthony Pezzula. (Through December 27)

Other Side: Art, Object, Self @ The Tang Teaching Museum, Saratoga Springs. Artworks from the Tang Collection by Willie Cole, Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler, Tim Hawkinson, Zanele Muholi, Tim Rollins and K.O.S., Yinka Shonibare MBE, among others, that examines ways in which artists use materials, found objects, or even their own bodies to explore questions of national, cultural and self-identity. Birthing Bodies @ The Tang Teaching Museum, Saratoga Springs. An exhibition that explores childbirth through a feminist lens, examining ideas of autonomy, power, and liminality, featuring works by Janine Antoni, Andrea Bowers, Stan Brakhage, Cindy Sherman, Nancy Spero and Kara Walker. What is that leaping in your chest? @ Collar Works, Troy. An exhibition examining the current state of the American Dream, with works by Susan Anthony, Fern T. Apfel, Simone Bailey, Joyce Chan, Ryan Chase Clow, Megan Galbraith, Alexandra Hammond, Tatana Kellner, Darian Longmire, Rob O’Neil, Fernando Orellana, Vincent Romaniello, Allie Wilkinson, Holly Wilson, Quay Quinn Wolf and Mike Yood, guest curated by Alexandra Foradas, Assistant Curator at Mass MOCA. Small Works @ Limner Gallery, Hudson. A holiday and small works show and sale featuring 77 works by 50 contemporary artists. (Through December 30)

The Women @ Ferrin Contemporary, North Adams. In honor of the recent resurgence of attention to gender issues in our society, a large show of ceramic works by women. (Through December 31)

Jideka Akunyili Crosby’s large-scale paintings have garnered international attention for their investigations into the confluences, contact zones, and third spaces of culture in her work. The paintings represent a fusion of her Nigerian upbringing, her immigration to America, and her subsequent marriage to a white Texan. Her artwork also plays with and subverts preconceived notions of Western art history by including portraits of her African family, material references to her Igbo tribe’s customs, and images of Nigeria’s British colonial past. (Through December 31)

Charles Clough @ Art Omi, Ghent. Works by Charles Clough including a large-scale participatory painting project. Also on display: Works by Galia Solomonoff as part of the Art Omi: Architecture indoor gallery series. (Through December 31)

A Shared Legacy: Folk Art in America @ The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls. More than sixty works made between 1800 and 1925 by regional artists who were either self-taught or had received minimal formal training. (Through December 31)

Hudson Valley Landscapes @ Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson. A group show featuring works by Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, Bill Sullivan, Don Bracken, Leigh Palmer, Harry Orlyk, Eileen Murphy, Joseph Maresca, John Kelly Judy Reynolds, Sue Bryan, Tracy Helgeson, Mary Anna Goetz and Richard Britell. The Impressionist Line @ The Clark, Williamstown. This exhibition showcases the hallmarks of the “Impressionist line,” including drawings by Claude Monet, color woodcuts by Paul Gauguin, etchings by Édouard Manet, pastels by Edgar Degas and color lithographs by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. (The Clark offers free admission on the first Sunday of the month from October to May) (Through January 7)

Cuba y Puerto Rico Son…de un pajaro las dos alas @ Martinez Gallery, Troy. Perspectives of both islands, from outside and within, with paintings by Roxanna Melendez and photographs by Marie Triller. (Through January 26)

Jessica Drenk: Regeneration @ Cynthia Reeves Gallery, North Adams. Sculptural and wall-based works by Jessica Drenk, who transforms commercial products, such as books, PVC pipe, and pencils, into organic forms that belie their material origins. The artist will be at the gallery December 2–7 to create a site-specific installation to complete the exhibition. (Through January 27)

Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown. Sixty works by Barbara Takenaga, made over two decades, that combine aspects of Japanese printmaking and Tantric painting, as well as modernist developments such as Op Art; this first in-depth assessment reveals how Takenaga’s work has enriched the languages of abstraction. (Through January 28)

Transcendent Functionalism @ Jeff Bailey Gallery, Hudson. A group exhibition of works by Cody Barber, Colby Bird, Nicole Cherubini, Nick DeMarco, Stephen Eakin, Sylvia Heisel, Doug Johnston, Maia Ruth Lee, Kim Markel, Elise McMahon, Shari Mendelson, Emmett Moore, Sara Greenberger Rafferty and Richard Roth, with objects from the Shaker Museum in Mount Lebanon. Dog Days @ Theo Ganz Studio, Beacon. Chantelle Norton explores the relationship between dog and human in this solo show of recent oil paintings, drawings and limited edition giclées. (Through January 28)

White As Snow @ Sohn Fine Art Gallery, Lenox. A group exhibit featuring the work of John Atchley, Peggy Braun, John Clarke, Martin Greene, Eric Korenman, Cassandra Sohn and Filip Wolak. (Through January 29)

Nature Culture Clash @ Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield. A solo exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Berkshire-based artist Morgan Bulkeley offers compelling scenarios where humans are pitted again nature, with nature holding the advantage. (Through February 4)

Chasing the Tale @ Albany International Airport Gallery, Albany. Works by artists engaged in a pictorial expression of storytelling that crosses personal mythology with collected narratives from historical, folk and popular culture, featuring Jason Blue Lake Hawk Martinez, Kenny Harris, Ira Marcks, Fernando Orellana, Amy Podmore, Jeff Starr and Gerda van Leeuwen. (Through February 26)

Spotlight: Albany & Anti-Suffrage @ Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. In the years leading up to 1917, not every woman wanted the right to vote. In fact, Albany was considered a stronghold of the anti-suffrage movement. This exhibit tells the story of the women who first met in 1894 before the New York Constitutional Convention convened, organized the Albany branch of the New York State Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage, lobbied to make their views heard in 1915, and lost their fight in 1917. (Through March 31)

Branding the AfroFuture @ Schaffer Library Learning Common, Schenectady. Works by Stacey Robinson that explore ideas of “Black Utopias” as spaces of peace away from colonial influence by considering Black protest movements and the art movements that document(ed) them. (Through March, 2018)

Never Abandon Imagination: The Fantastical Art of Tony DiTerlizzi @ Norman Rockwell Museum, Stockbridge. An exhibition of works by the #1 New York Times bestselling author/illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi, known for his images of such fantasy creatures as fairies, trolls, sprites and goblins. (Through May 28)

Downtown is Pawsome Garden Party @ Tricentennial Park, Albany. Celebrating a local landmark and American icon, regional artists have customized twenty 3-foot-tall sculptures of Albany’s famous canine resident Nipper. The painted pups will grace various locations in downtown Albany throughout the next year. Proceeds from the Garden Party will benefit programs of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, as well as the continued revitalization of downtown Albany. (Through May, 2018)

Concinnitas Portfolio @ Mandeville Gallery, Schenectady. A portfolio of ten fine art aquatint prints featuring equations, expressions or formulas transcribed by ten notable mathematicians and physicists, in response to the prompt to record their ‘most beautiful mathematical expression.’ Each image was hand-drawn by each of the following participants: Sir Michael Atiyah, Enrico Bombieri, Simon K. Donaldson, Freeman Dyson, Murray Gell-Mann, Richard Karp, Peter Lax, David Mumford, Stephen Smale and Steven Weinberg. (Through August 2018)

Building 6 Grand Opening @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. MASS MoCA doubles in in size beginning May 28, with an all-day celebration featuring a members’ preview, a Soundsuit performance and a concert with veteran rockers CAKE. The galleries will feature long-term exhibits of works by Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, Laurie Anderson and Gunnar Schonbeck. Additional artists to be shown in Building 6 include Spencer Finch, Dawn DeDeaux, Lonnie Holley, Mary Lum, Barbara Ernst Prey, Janice Kerbel, Joe Wardwell, Sarah Crowner, Richard Nonas and the Optics Division of the Metabolic Studio.

Liz Glynn: The Archaeology of Another Possible Future @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Los Angeles-based Liz Glynn will present her largest and most ambitious project to date in Building 5, MASS MoCA’s largest gallery — a sprawling multi-sensory sculptural experience of sight, sensation, sound, and scent stretching nearly a football field in length. The exhibition expands Glynn’s interest in the rise and fall of empires, labor, and shifting cultural values, in order to speculate upon our uncertain future. (Through Labor Day 2018)
