1/23/18: Today’s Top Tips: Tuesday

MUSIC: “Aterue: The Singers from Elsewhere” @ Time + Space Ltd., Hudson. A documentary about Tenores de Aterúe, a quartet of singers from America who discovered and learned to sing cantu a tenòre, a polyphonic Sardinian singing tradition. Little did they know that they were the first people outside of Sardinia to sing this music. Followed by a performance by the group and a Q&A with cinematographer Lucas Miller and singers. 7pm. $9; students $7.

MUSIC: Sleeping With Sirens @ Upstate Concert Hall, Clifton Park. Fresh from their UK tour with Rise Against, the band rolls into town in support of their latest album Gossip. With Set It Off, the Gospel Youth and Southpaw. 7:30pm. $25.

PERFORMANCE/FILM: “Inheritance” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Hudson Valley filmmaker Ephraim Asili offers a first look at his feature film based on the true story of a West Philadelphia collective of black political activists. Featuring poet-activist Sonia Sanchez. 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Pocket Vinyl @ Pauly’s Hotel, Albany. The New London duo – a one-man piano slammer and an onstage painter, who creates a beautiful and unique work of art at every show – celebrates the release of their new album, Uncomfortably Unsure. 8pm.

MUSIC: Williams Opera Workshop @ Williams College’s Chapin Hall, Williamstown. Featuring highlights from “The Magic Flute,” “Marriage of Figaro,” “Boris Godunov,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Threepenny Opera” and more. 7pm. FREE.
