Disruption. The Exhibition. @ The Center for Photography at Woodstock, Woodstock. Works by Verónica G Cárdenas, Orestes González, Kris Graves, GD McClintock and Griselda San Martín. Using a broad variety of narrative styles, these five photography-based artists expand their interpretations of the word “disruption” to show how the word manifests itself in the social, political and economic world we live in. The Lure of the Dark @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Natasha Bowdoin: Maneater @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Houston, TX-based artist Natasha Bowdoin builds wall-works with words. In her largest-ever cut paper and collage installation, she investigates the intersections of the visual, the experiential, and the literary, treating language and nature as kindred phenomena. The 50 Card Project @ MCLA Gallery 51, North Adams. Every week since Inauguration Day, and continuing through the end of 2017, Melanie Mowinski, an associate professor of visual arts at MCLA, printed a new letterpress card in a limited edition of 100, using vintage letterpress type, cuts and other printing matrices. Spotlight: Albany & Anti-Suffrage @ Albany Institute of History and Art, Albany. In the years leading up to 1917, not every woman wanted the right to vote. In fact, Albany was considered a stronghold of the anti-suffrage movement. This exhibit tells the story of the women who first met in 1894 before the New York Constitutional Convention convened, organized the Albany branch of the New York State Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage, lobbied to make their views heard in 1915, and lost their fight in 1917. Branding the AfroFuture @ Schaffer Library Learning Common, Schenectady. Works by Stacey Robinson that explore ideas of “Black Utopias” as spaces of peace away from colonial influence by considering Black protest movements and the art movements that document(ed) them. (Through March 31)

Liliana Porter and Ana Tiscornia @ Art Omi, Ghent. Works by two artists who have resided together and shared studio space for decades: Liliana Porter works across diverse media with installation, assemblage, photography, collage, theater, and public art, often employing a cast of characters that are inanimate objects, miniatures, toys and figurines. Ana Tiscornia’s practice encompasses wall works and collages composed with cutout cardboard and paper objects comprised of manipulated fragments. (Through May 13)

An exhibition of works by the #1 New York Times bestselling author/illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi, known for his images of such fantasy creatures as fairies, trolls, sprites and goblins. Downtown is Pawsome Garden Party @ Tricentennial Park, Albany. Celebrating a local landmark and American icon, regional artists have customized twenty 3-foot-tall sculptures of Albany’s famous canine resident Nipper. The painted pups will grace various locations in downtown Albany throughout the next year. Proceeds from the Garden Party will benefit programs of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, as well as the continued revitalization of downtown Albany. (Through May 31)

Probability & Uncertainty @ Mandeville Gallery, Schenectady. This exhibition will feature over thirty historic, scientific instruments from the Union College Permanent Collection, juxtaposed with six contemporary female artists working with scientific themes: Aimée Burg, Nettrice Gaskins, Jessie Henson, Carter Hodgkin, Kirsten Kay Thoen and Audrey Wilson. Concinnitas Portfolio @ Mandeville Gallery, Schenectady. A portfolio of ten fine art aquatint prints featuring equations, expressions or formulas transcribed by ten notable mathematicians and physicists, in response to the prompt to record their ‘most beautiful mathematical expression.’ Each image was hand-drawn by each of the following participants: Sir Michael Atiyah, Enrico Bombieri, Simon K. Donaldson, Freeman Dyson, Murray Gell-Mann, Richard Karp, Peter Lax, David Mumford, Stephen Smale and Steven Weinberg. (Through August 31)

Liz Glynn: The Archaeology of Another Possible Future @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. Los Angeles-based Liz Glynn will present her largest and most ambitious project to date in Building 5, MASS MoCA’s largest gallery — a sprawling multi-sensory sculptural experience of sight, sensation, sound, and scent stretching nearly a football field in length. The exhibition expands Glynn’s interest in the rise and fall of empires, labor, and shifting cultural values, in order to speculate upon our uncertain future. (Through Labor Day 2018)

RAWR! A WCMA Bestiary @ Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown. An exhibit that considers how art has helped to create arbitrary distinctions between the human and the animal, with works from WCMA’s encyclopedic collection exploring the representation of animals in art and artifacts across time and across the globe. (Through October 31)

Rachel Howard: Paintings of Violence (Why I am not a mere Christian) @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. In her first U.S. solo museum show, London-based painter Rachel Howard examines human cruelty; the work’s title references both C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity and Bertrand Russell’s “Why I am not a Christian,” texts which argue respectively for and against adherence to Christianity. Members’ reception: Saturday, March 24.
