Mercurial, five-time Juno nominee and seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award winning mandolin master Andrew Collins led the appropriately named Andrew Collins Trio – also featuring Mike Mezzatesta (guitar, mandolin, fiddle, mandola) and James McEleney (bass, mandocello, harmony vocals) – into Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs last month for the Toronto-based band’s Greater Nippertown debut. The concert – part of the Caffe’s Bright Series – showcased the band’s musical mash-up of bluegrass, folk, jazz, classical and swing, offering a sneak preview of their upcoming double-CD, tongue and groove.
