FREE: Alive at Five Announces Final Concert; Here’s the Complete Schedule
Albany’s Alive at Five concert series – which will be held at 5pm on Thursdays at Jennings Landing in the Corning Preserve – continues to dole out band announcements piecemeal for the 2018 summer season. And, of course, the concerts are all FREE.
Today they announced the eighth and final concert for the 2018 summer season:
MATISYAHU
Thursday, June 21
The singer-songwriter mixes the contemporary styles of reggae, rap, beatboxing and hip-hop with the more traditional vocal disciplines of jazz’s scat singing and Judaism’s hazzan style of songful prayer. He’s headed to Albany in support of his brand-spankin’ new single, “Coming from Afar.”

This may be the one of the weakest lineups in Alive at Five history. I’m taking my free time to the Music Haven series, where it’s all about great music delivered in a better setting.
Matisyahu and Third World, two great reggae concerts in the same season. Yonder Mountain String Band’s picking and jammin’ and authentic blues from one of the Jackson Five. I don’t know Albert Hammond (any relation to John Jr. or that guy from the seventies?), Big Daddy Kane or Sir Sly, but I’m looking forward to the experience. No real competition from the other series on the same night. (The real choices this year will be between Riverlink, Freedom Park and the brand new Harbor venue, all on the same river on the same night.)
