FREE: New York State’s 4th of July Celebration @ Empire State Plaza

New York State’s 4th of July Celebration at Albany’s Empire State Plaza has been tradition since 1976, and Price Chopper/Market 32 have continued to sponsor the free holiday extravaganza for all these years. One thing is always true about the celebration, however, and that is that no matter who the featured musical act is for the holiday shindig, they always play second fiddle to the massive, ever-popular fireworks display that caps off the festivities.

This year, the musical headliner is California pop-rockers Smash Mouth, still led by vocalist Steve Harwell. The band is best remembered for their ’90s hits, “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star.”

Joining Smash Mouth on the bill for the Fourth of July celebration will be homegrown rocker Moriah Formica, a contender on last year’s season of NBC-TV’s “The Voice.”

The celebration runs from 3-10pm on Wednesday, July 4, and, of course, there will also be plenty of other fun things to do throughout the day including dozens of vendors and kids activities.
