FREE: Two New Concerts Announced for SPAC

Following the success of last summer’s inaugural season of concert collaborations between the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Caffe Lena, the free Caffe Lena @ SPAC Concert Series returns for two more installments this summer.

The free concerts will take place at SPAC’s Charles R. Wood Stage (the former site of the Gazebo Stage) from 12noon-4pm on a pair of upcoming Sunday afternoons – June 17 and July 1. Guests are welcome to bring food, drinks, blankets and lawn chairs for the concerts. Food concessions will be available as well. In the event of rain, the concert location will shift to Caffe Lena and will remain free and open to the public.

Here’s the schedule for 2018’s Caffe Lena @ SPAC series:

SATURDAY (JUNE 17)
12noon: THE OSHIMA BROTHERS are Sean and Jamie, whose magnetic sibling sound and contagious joy result from a lifetime of making music together. Raised in a musical family in rural Maine, the brothers have honed a harmony-rich blend of contemporary folk and acoustic pop.
1:30pm: KUINKA combines modern folk with a uniquely electric vibe. Multiple lead singers in this Seattle band are accompanied by cello, banjo, synthesizers, clarinet and electronic drums.
3pm: DARLINGSIDE has been dubbed “a must-see act” by Rolling Stone, with “locomotive folk-pop confections so richly executed it’s hard to tell if it’s one voice or twelve.” Influenced by ’60s folk, chamber pop, bluegrass, classical music and modern indie rock, Darlingside’s rich and moving sound has created quite a bit of buzz around this Boston-based quartet.

SATURDAY (JULY 1)
12noon: TBA
1:30pm: ELIZABETH WOODBURY KASIUS & HEARD have roots in jazz, as well as West African and Brazilian beats. Composer-keyboardist Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius is backed by Jonathan Green on woodwinds, Bobby Kendall on bass, Brian Melick on percussion and Zorkie Nelson on percussion, vocals, and flute.
3pm: MARTHA REDBONE ROOTS PROJECT, led by Martha Redbone, is a trio inspired by the sounds of the Appalachian hills of Redbone’s youth, as well as her teenage years in Brooklyn.
