Happy Rhodes
Happy Rhodes of the Security Project

Review and photographs by Rudy Lu

Prog rock still lives. Recently the Peter Gabriel tribute band Security Project visited Greater Nippertown for the second time in six months, this time with a complex light show and projections at Jupiter Hall at Lucky Strike Social in Guilderland. The aid of the new visuals added greatly to the interpretation of Gabriel’s complex and intense music and lyrics.

Happy Rhodes’ stunning four-octave voice commanded the stage as before, with the interplay of maestros Trey Gunn, Mike Cozzi, Dave Jameson and Jerry Marotta each adding their unique musical voice to the songs.

Jameson even brought out his Eigenharp – a strange instrument that resembled a long zither – for “Family and the Fishing Net” and dazzled the audience with a medley of Genesis compositions that featured a slideshow based on the elaborate album covers that Genesis was so famous for.

Unfortunately, there were fewer than three dozen fans in the audience compared to the two packed houses at Schenectady’s Van Dyck just six months earlier.
