MASS MoCA Announces Fall/Winter Season of Concerts, Theater, Comedy, Talks & More

`Fresh Grass @ MASS MoCA

MASS MoCA’s fall season kicks off with the eighth annual FreshGrass festival on Friday-Sunday, September 14-16, a rollicking weekend devoted to bluegrass and progressive roots music. The schedule also features a few other previously announced shows – Angel Olsen brings her sun-kissed garage rock to the Hunter Center on Saturday, September 29; The Decemberists perform new music on Thursday, October 4; the elusive Bonnie “Prince” Billy shares his magic on Saturday, October 13; and Tune-Yards and U.S. Girls fuel a veritable rave on Tuesday, October 30.

But there are an impressive batch of new additions, too, including an all-day celebration of Sol LeWitt which takes over the North Adams museum on Saturday, November 17 with pop-up stories and performances in the galleries by artists Laurie Anderson, Spencer Finch, Karl Larson, Jeffrey Gibson, Sameer Gupta, Abhik Mukherjee, Barbara Takenaga, Tigue, Joe Wardwell and LeWitt master draftsman John Hogan.

And actor Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) is slated to make his MASS MoCA debut in “Fishing,” a work-in-progress performance in collaboration with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and choreographer/director Danielle Agami, which will take over the Hunter Center on Saturday, December 8. We don’t know what it’s all about, but it sounds mighty interesting, don’t it?

Harold Lopez-Nussa is Mack Avenue’s latest import from Cuba — amazing piano player and composer. Don’t miss him October 6!
