MUSIC: The Ballroom Thieves @ College of St. Rose’s Massry Center for the Arts, Albany. Calin “Callie” Peters (vocals, cello), Martin Earley (guitar, vocals) and Devin Mauch (percussion, vocals) mine immense melodies and hypnotic hooks from personal stories on their 2018 EP, Paper Crown. Under the cover of vintage jazz-style, the five songs reflect feelings of rootlessness from four nomadic years, bouts of depression, and the ever-looming specter of political unrest hanging over the country. DANCE: “Descent” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Disabled dancers Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson of Kinetic Light perform a unique wheelchair dance performance based on the story of Greek mythical figures Venus and Andromeda. 7:30pm. $18; students/seniors $13. Also at 7:30pm on Friday.

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Groovin’…Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Legends @ Proctors, Schenectady. A tribute to Rock & Roll Hall of Famers features guest singers Moriah Formica (finalist from 2017’s “The Voice”) as Ann Wilson of Heart; Matthew Boyce (2017 Elvis Tribute Artist International Winner) as Elvis Presley; and Tom Raider (of The Beatles tribute band, Hey Jude) as John Lennon. The Blue Star Mothers of America benefit concert will also feature cast regulars Krista David Donnelly, Tommy Love, Donna Lee, Lenny Thomas, Fran O’Neill, Scott Garling, Taylor Howes and Bobbie Van Detta. 7:30pm. $22-$38.

THEATER: Casse Noisette (The Nutcracker) @ Bridge Street Theatre, Catskill. The world premiere of Philadelphia-based playwright Michael Whistler’s brilliant, funny and touching play is described by its author as “the story of a very quiet man and some very loud music,” masterfully interweaving the life of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with that of a deeply-closeted modern-day American high school teacher obsessed with Tchaikovsky’s music.
