ARTIST TALK: Larry Kagan @ Albany Institute of History & Art, Albany. The artist shares his insights about the sculptures on view in his exhibit “Shape and Shadow,” as well as his inspirations, creative processes and artistic achievements. 2pm. FREE with museum admission.
EVENT: Albany Record Riot @ Ramada Plaza by Wyndham, Albany. Vendors are trucking in from all over the East Coast and beyond. Over 30,000 LPs will be for sale, along with great CDs, 45s, & who knows what else. 10am-5pm. $3. Early bird admission at 8am $10.
MUSIC: A Joyful Noise! Gospel Brunch @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Brunch from award-winning Hattie’s Restaurant and modern gospel music from soul singer Garland Nelson and the Inspirational Voices Gospel Choir. 1pm. $35.
WORKSHOP: Ken Allday @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The celebrated Louisville-based Gypsy guitarist is also an in-demand teacher. 4:30pm. $20.
MUSIC: Hot Club of Saratoga @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Greater Nippertown’s popular Gypsy jazz band is joined by Louisville guitarist Ken Allday. Followed by an after-show jam session. 7pm. $24.
MUSIC: Albany Pro Musica’s High School Choral Festival @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. Participating high schools are Albany High School Select Choir, Queensbury High School, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, Saratoga Springs High School and Tamarac High School, followed by a grand finale where they sing with Albany Pro Musica. Rex Smith is the emcee, and Brad Ellingboe is the guest composer and conductor. 3pm.
CABARET/FUNDRAISER: Charles Busch @ Bridge Street Theatre, Catskill. The consummate entertainer returns for a special sneak preview of his new cabaret act, “Native New Yorker” just prior to its run in NYC at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Accompanied by long-time musical director Tom Judson. The gala benefit for Bridge Street Theatre will be followed by a reception. 2pm. $60.
MUSIC: The Don Byron 4Tet @ The Falcon, Marlboro. The award-winning clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and arranger returns with his all-star band. 8pm. Donations encouraged.
MUSIC: SAMADHI Recovery Outreach Center Benefit Celebration @ Colony, Woodstock. Julie Novak hosts an evening of musical entertainment by Simi Stone, Drew Andrews, Two Dark Birds and more. 6pm. $35.
