Song o’ the Week: “Love Starvation” by Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets

“That’s what’s really cool about a guy like Nick, that he’d agree to something like this,” Los Straitjackets guitarslinger Eddie Angel told Rolling Stone last year of the masked instrumental rockers’ ongoing collaboration with veteran singer-songwriter Nick Lowe. “We had nothing to lose. But he did: his reputation!”

No question about it, Lowe’s reputation has only been enhanced by his ongoing collaboration with the Mexican-masked marvels from Nashville, led by former Nippertonian Eddie Angel. On May 17, he’ll uncork another four-song EP that he’s recorded with Los Straitjackets. Love Starvation / Trombone will include three new Lowe songs, as well as a cover of Sammy Turner’s 1960 single “Raincoat in the River.”

Nick Lowe’s Quality Rock & Roll Revue Starring Los Straitjackets will be hitting the road again for a short east coast tour in April. The closest gig of the tour is currently slated for 8pm Friday, April 12 at the the Tarrytown Music Hall ($38, $48 & $60).
