Chris’s Short Take: Berkshire Palate
If you ask most folks from the Capital District what they think of when they hear “ What’s the best thing over in Williamstown”, I’m sure you’ll hear lots of “Theater!” or “William’s College”, or “The Clark Museum” responses. A lot of folks don’t venture east of the Hudson at all, that may change when folks stop in at the Berkshire Palate.
When reading up on this place, my wife saw a dish that really intrigued her, a Marinated Grilled Squash Soup with Crispy Kale and Cashews. When she read about the soup it was a daily special and wasn’t on the menu that day. Our server excused himself, stepped over to the kitchen and returned with the news the chef had the ingredients, and would gladly make the dish. You see it here in the photo, I’m only sorry you can’t smell it.

Come to find out that was just the beginning. My wife added an order of Mexican Street Corn, and I ordered the Blistered Shishito Peppers with Sesame and Ponzu Sauce. It was all amazingly good.

The sliders were calling my name, and both the Nashville Hot Chicken, and the chef’s own PB & Jelly Pork Belly with Pickled Onions did themselves proud.

We almost stopped there, and then I spotted the dessert menu,…Chocolate Risotto? Chocolate RISOTTO????? Well if that’s not waving a red flag at the bull, but it’s worth the trip for that alone. Don’t forget this one folks, and if you go to Williamstown to check out this guy, stop into Berkshire Palate and let me know what you think.
