The Pretenders Premieres at Palace October 5th

The Palace Theatre, along with Film Albany, is excited to roll out the red carpet for the Capital Region premiere of James Franco’s “The Pretenders” on Saturday, October 5.

The movie will begin at 7:00 pm and doors will open at 6:00 pm.

Filming for THE PRETENDERS took place in 2016 throughout Albany and the Capital Region, including directly in the Palace Theatre. It will be unique to be able to watch the film where it was made.

Directed by James Franco, the drama, written by Will Patterson and Jesse Woods, stars Jack Kilmer (The Nice Guys), Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe), Shameik Moore (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse), Tyler Alvarez (American Vandal), Brian Cox (X2: X-Men United), Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow), Juno Temple (Maleficent) and James Franco.

Life imitates deadly art as French New Wave obsessed film student Terry (Jack Kilmer) and his best friend, the smooth-talking Phil (Shameik Moore) are both seduced by mysterious actress Catherine (Jane Levy). The longer they know each other, the more they realize they don’t truly know the real Catherine. After years of sex, betrayal, and collateral damage, the three careen into a lifestyle that leaves one of them fighting for their life.

Tickets are on sale now. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased in person at the Box Office, or online at or by phone at 518-465-4663.
