The Arts Center of the Capital Region is pleased to announce MUSIC INFUSED: artwork by Francelise Dawkins & the extension of CULTURE CONSUMED by Niki Haynes.
MUSIC INFUSED: September 23 – November 8
MUSIC INFUSED is a new series of works created by Francelise Dawkins that plays on her spiritual connection to her work through music & movement. The work consists of fabrics of all colors, patterns and imagery wrapped in sewn threads moving through a rhythmic pattern of song brought on by the playful energy between each layer.
“Sewn by hand as well as with the help of her sewing machine, it’s hard to tell where one piece of fabric stops and another starts” says Curator Belinda Colón.
Francelise Dawkins is a Parisian “textile collagist”, living in the U.S. for over two decades. She first studied Fiber Arts at the Art League School of Indianapolis before moving to NY, where she developed her meditative concept for interior designs in textile collages. She has since exhibited or taught at the American Craft Museum in NYC, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the NY State Museum in Albany, NY, and other renowned venues.
The exhibit reception for MUSIC INFUSED will take place in our Wallace & Foyer Galleries during Troy Night Out, Friday, September 27, 6-8pm.
Francelise also participated in our Farmer’s Market Public Art Series by creating work on the Monument Square Fence. Our next project will be coordinator by C.R.E.AT.E. Community Studios on Saturday, September 28th during Farmer’s Market hours. Our Farmer’s Market Public Art Series runs through October 2019.

The Culture Consumed series is the culmination of a body of work which spans the last 15 years. Niki Haynes’ intention has been for each piece to stand alone but ultimately resonate together to identify and acknowledge our collective consumption and all it entails, encouraging us to stand back and absorb the big picture, adjust and re-approach.
“Poignant, museum quality work displayed in shadow box frames gives the gallery a refreshing new look of professionalism and respectability” says Curator, Belinda Colón. She is honored that Haynes is presenting this body of work in the Main Gallery at the Arts Center.
Niki Haynes currently resides in Troy, NY. Her artwork is a commentary on consumer culture and an exploration of social mores. She attended a Music & Art High School in New York City and later The Cooper Union for studies in fine art.
Collage Night: Wednesday, October 9, 6-8pm, Main Gallery. Come join the Arts Center for a low-key, high-fun collage night. We supply magazines, collage materials, scissors, glue, and ambiance. Come and make new paper cutting friends! Hosted by Curator Belinda Colón and Artist Niki Haynes. This event is free and open to the public. (no pre-registration required but supplies are limited).
