LIVE: Murali Coryell’s 50th Birthday @ Falcon Underground, Marlboro

Murali Coryell celebrated his 50th birthday in style with three sets of his brand of music at the Falcon Underground in Marlboro, NY.

Murali is no stranger to the music scene. He is the son of fusion guitarist and pioneer Larry Coryell. His tune “In the room with Jimi” is an autobiographical song that describes his background. He grew up with the music of Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Carlos Santana and many others.  He certainly displayed his influences in his own unique style with the blues dominating with occasional jazz and soul catalog. The band of Bill Foster on bass, the omnipresent Pete O’ Brien on drums, and Juma Sultan on percussion  (played with Jimi Hendrix the Band of Sun, Moons and Rainbows) ably accompanied his guitar and vocals, Guests including Bobby Messano sat in and traded guitar licks.  Music from his latest CD, Made In Texas was featured.

Closing with a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”, it made for a great way to spend a rainy lazy Sunday afternoon.
