Good Karma Studio Hosts Open House Circus on November 23
Good Karma Studio will be celebrating their one year anniversary this weekend and they are not clowning around. They are the only certified circus arts and aerial studio in the area, encouraging people to try something new and take their practices off the mat. Good Karma will be hosting an open house on Saturday, November 23rd for yoga enthusiasts of all skill levels. The Circus Open House will run from 10 am to 5 pm located at 12 Walker Way in Albany. The event will be full of FREE classes, vendors, wine tastings, raffle prizes and discounts on class packages. I spoke with yoga instructor and studio manager, Alyssa L, about the excitement building up for the big day.

Susan Rice: How is circus arts different than aerial yoga?
Alyssa L: “For our aerial yoga classes we use the aerial hammock which is parachute like material. This helps you gain support and balance in poses, helping you get deeper assisted stretches and the best of all, allowing the body to hang upside down in an inversion to relieve and lubricate the spine, removing tension from the hips and low back. Great for people who sit at a desk! Circus arts brings you Silks and Lyra. The Silks allows you climb long strands of fabric, create poses in the air and welcomes you into the world of flips and drops. Circus arts is a bit more challenging but accessible for all levels!
SR: Do you need to have done regular yoga before attempting any of the circus arts?
AL: “You don’t need to have a regular yoga practice under your belt. Previous knowledge may help your body awareness but no experience is needed. Aerial yoga and circus arts are available to the most beginner students.”

SR: What do you like best about circus arts?
AL: “I love how unique and different it is. I love a challenge and any way to keep active, so practicing circus arts lets you get in a killer workout while sharpening your skills at the same time. At Good Karma Studio, we’ve collected such a wonderful group of students and friends that come from all different levels, backgrounds, ages and genders, yet you never feel more at home then when you walk through our doors. We’ve really cultivated an uplifting and supportive community.”
For yogis who are more comfortable on the ground, Good Karma Studios overs a variety of traditional classes such as Gentle, Vinyasa and Barre Fitness. They offer introductory packages, private parties, kids classes, personal training and music themed classes. Good Karma Studio is the next best thing to running away and joining the circus. Be sure to reserve your spot today.
