Schenectady High Piano Students Need Your Help!

Schenectady High School students, along with thousands of other area children, are home right now due to the COVID 19 crisis. Many are pursuing their academics using a computer, connecting with their teachers online and emailing assignments.

But what if you are a music student? And what if you signed up for a class called “Piano”?

That’s the question Dave Gleason and Krista Hawk, two dedicated musicians and teachers at the school, are trying to answer.

The students who enroll in “Piano” are often the most dedicated to music, but home without keyboards, their learning has shifted from hands on musical training to worksheets and projects instead.

Some students could borrow keyboards from family and friends. And the teachers were able to raise enough money to purchase two students keyboards to use at home, but are hoping other donors in the community will help too.

Ms. Hawk explained, “Their love of music is good for their physical and mental well being.” Ms. Hawk and Mr. Gleason are motivated to make certain every student who would like access to a keyboard can get one.

That’s where our Nipper fans’ help come into play! If you are interested in donating to this cause, please mail a personal check to David Gleason, 2082 The Plaza, Schenectady, NY 12309. Or you can send your check to Krista Hawk, 428 Barhydt Road, Glenville, NY 12302.

All funds will go toward purchasing Casio CTK 2550 keyboards. Each costs about $139 a piece.

The team hopes to get 16 keyboards into the hands of needy students as soon as possible.
