Iron Roost Celebrates 8 Year Anniversary
It’s a rough time to have a birthday. It’s hard to celebrate when you can’t be with the people you value the most. This past weekend, Iron Roost in Ballston Spa turned eight, and they found a way to make sure the day was special for all their customers. Anyone who ordered from them received a free mug with the Iron Roost logo as a thank you for supporting them. I was pleasantly surprised to find one in my bag, and I will drink from it proudly. It’s not often someone gives you a gift on their birthday.
Iron Roost has become a staple in Ballston Spa, paving the way for new restaurants and other small businesses to set down roots. There is something about the atmosphere there. Incredibly friendly staff, excellent food, and some of the most aesthetically pleasing decorations I have ever seen. My family and I go there every year for my birthday. (In the land of carbs, I would rather eat a waffle over a slice of cake any day.) Sometimes my mom, my sister and I go out to treat ourselves to a waffle and catch up. I am sure I am not the only one who finds the Iron Roost the perfect place to do that.

Since Iron Roost has become such a success, they were able to open a sister store, Two Birds Marketplace, in December of 2018. Two Birds offers some groceries, meals to go, coffee beverages, and baked goods, as well as hand made goods by local artisans. It’s a cozy space that is just as charming as Iron Roost. On my days off, I like to go there, get a Buffalo Cauliflower Wrap and a latte, and sit and read or work on my writing. It’s a quiet space, just the gentle conversation of other customers and the occasional purr of the espresso machine.
When businesses started to have to close due to COVID-19, there were many local establishments I worried about, Two Birds and Iron Roost among them. These are two of my favorite places to eat carbs! It came as a relief to me when Iron Roost announced that they were going to partner with Mealeo, a food ordering and delivery service based in Upstate NY so that they could still offer food to the community. You can download the Mealeo app or call Iron Roost to place an order at (518) 309-3535, and you can either pick it up or have it delivered to you.
Their menu changes from day to day, with new specials coming in on the weekends. I was particularly thrilled when my fall favorite, Pumpkin Spice, made a cameo a couple of weekends ago. Lately, I have been into the Very Berry. It’s a double-stacked waffle featuring the tartness of raspberry compote and the sweetness of juicy strawberries and blueberries. I also like to order the home fries and chicken sausage patties. If you’re more of a savory waffle person, they have you covered. The Southwest Fiesta has always been another one of my go tos.

This past weekend, they expanded to their drinks menu, offering espresso-based beverages. Two Birds also began to offer bread and baked good orders which you can order on their website and pick up either Saturday or Sunday. I bought a loaf of bread this weekend, and it is the perfect kind to use as a base for avocado toast or a delicious breakfast sandwich.
In times like these, I know I am going to stress eat, and if I am going to do it, I plan to stress eat only the best.
