The Beat from Troy Music Hall #14, Gotta Dance
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” – Vivian Greene
Things are starting to look up! Much of our region has been cleared for phase one re-opening, so let’s take pleasure in this small victory. It will take some time, but we look forward to the day when we can awkwardly and self-consciously dance with each other once again.
Dirty Dancing
While in social isolation, choreographer Quinn B Wharton was challenged by a friend to recreate the iconic last dance number from Dirty Dancing. As you can see from the video, he was up for the challenge! We particular like how the lamp shade mimics the shape of Baby’s hair.
Relationship Goals
Meet Dietmar & Nellia
According to Facebook, Dietmar is 94 and Nellia is 91. We couldn’t verify the age of these two lovebirds, but who cares? File this under goals and break out your dancing shoes!
Swans for Relief
Misty Copeland and Joseph Phillips organized this virtual ballet with the goal of raising money for ballet dancers struggling with living expenses. The video performance features 32 ballerinas from 22 ballet companies from 14 countries. The dancers perform a variation from Le Cygne (The Swan), accompanied by cellist Wade Davis. Click on the video to learn more or to donate.
Too Cool Not To Include
A new version of “Mother” done with social distancing in place. If you’re a fan of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd, you know what to expect. For those of you who need a heads up, there is some language and Roger Waters being Roger Waters.
Good News
Some Good News with John Krasinski
The final episode! We’ve enjoyed this series of uplifting stories and look forward to seeing what the next evolution will be.
Just for Fun!

How to Make 6 Different Blanket Forts at Home
Because what else do you have going on? If you build one, and we suggest these plans as mere guidelines, send us a photo and we’ll post your creations online.

Our final video today is Simon’s Cat. We include the video that started it all (and at last count had 62 million views) and a more recent video so you can see how the series has evolved.
We know this is hard, and if you need someone to listen, NYS has set up a Covid Emotional Support Helpline – call 1-844-863-9314, available 8 AM – 10 PM, seven days a week.
Please share with us any links or videos that have made you laugh, entertained you, or provided a distraction. Please email them to [email protected] and we may use them in future volumes of The Beat. Thank you.
