A show that I went to on this date was in 1979. Peter Frampton with The Laughing Dogs at the Palace. Since I was only 14 years old my parents wouldn’t let me tag along with my sisters to see Frampton at Madison Square Garden. Then a few months later got to see him on August 4 at Glen’s Falls Civic center then the same show at the Palace.
One of our many appearances at 288 Lark
2013: The Holmes Brothers @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. The best band ever. I still remember helping them pack up their gear after the show and Wendell Holmes telling me about the time in ’65 when he got to play with Otis Redding in NYC!! As he told me the story, he started singing Redding’s “Good to Me.”
2010: Gurf Morlix @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. What a show. It was my first time seeing this gifted songwriter. He told a hilarious story about a fish that watched television.
2008: Grace Potter & the Nocturnals @ Revolution Hall, Troy. Oh, to be back to the days when Grace had that original band and hadn’t gone out into the vapid wilderness of pop music. It was over two hours of soulful, bluesy rock and roll that night in Troy. It’s weird, but about the time Revolution Hall closed shop is when Grace lost her way.
2002: Joan Osborne @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. I will never forget Joan, who played a stellar set, singing Jimi Hendrix’s “Bold as Love” and everybody it seemed sang every word with her. Magic stuff.
