LIVE (Stream): Tom Chapin @ Caffe Lena, 11/14/2020

Tom Chapin is no stranger to Caffe Lena or to the Nippertown area. He is a frequent performer in the immediate Nippertown area and the Hudson Valley. This performance was a little different as he was playing solo at Caffe Lena instead of his usual packed house.

An important part of our folk music tradition, Tom Chapin has played and worked with his own band, as well as, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Si Kahn. Tom’s gentle tuneful voice and conversational style made the difficult challenge of bringing his intimate music to a streaming audience seem easy.

Tunes ranged from odes to topical farm to table consumerism “Locally Grown” and “Grow Your Own”, Lessons on Upstate NY geography “Upstate NY Waltz”, kids songs “Library” and “We Are Family”, our constantly changing world “We Will Adjust”, songs of hope “Love Lasts Long” , truisms “Old Dogs and Old Friends”, “City of New Orleans” and of course political songs on the immigration experience “Ellis Island” and “Good Garbage”.

This was Tom’s second gig on the outside. He has also been streaming a program from his quarantine in Brooklyn with his daughters “Mornings with Papa Tom & the Chapin Sisters” on

Tom’s voice and playing was certaining a nice way to spend a cold Saturday evening.

In the words of Tom Chapin and his colleague Si Kahn,  “Pass the Music On”!
