The Beat from Troy Music Hall #50, Happy New Year

“I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you’ll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you’ll make something that didn’t exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.” – Neil Gaiman

Happy 2021! We still have months of hard work and sacrifice ahead of us, but help is on the way. According to this article in the Times Union, one million doses of the vaccine are making their way to the Capital Region!

We know this is hard, especially during this holiday season. If you need someone to listen, NYS has set up a Covid Emotional Support Helpline – call 1-844-863-9314, available 8 AM – 10 PM, seven days a week.

2020 The Musical – The Year in Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjbLY46Vaq8

From The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon comes a review of 2020 using familiar Broadway show tunes. We recognize Wicked, Book of Mormon, A Chorus Line, Cats, Little Shop Of Horrors, Fiddler on the Roof, and so many more. How many can you identify?

We Hope this Never Happens to You

We’ve all been there. Your car is parked on the street and it snows, you need to clean it but are caught without an ice-scraper. This man does such a good job improvising, yet this short commercial still has a tragic end. (Thanks to John and Lois for sending this to us – we miss you!)

Remember Seeing a Show in our Beautiful Hall?

Filmed in the Hall in 2018, this shows off the talents of guitarist Jesse Cook, as well as the beauty of our Hall. From Jesse, “There is something magical about an empty theatre, especially the old ones. You know that at one time or another, all the greats have walked those boards. I like to go in early some days, before the crew gets there, and soak up some of that magic. This is the beautiful Music Hall from Troy, New York.”

Happy Enchilada

We lost singer-songwriter John Prine, a true musical icon, to Covid this year. Here is a lovely moment he shared with Stephen Colbert in 2016. Colbert called this “one of the happiest moments I’ve had on my show.”

It’s Super Cute until the Uprising

No, this is not an episode from Black Mirror, nor is this video altered in any way. From the good people of Boston Dynamics comes the latest and greatest example of robotics. Seriously, haven’t they watched The Terminator?

Kids Corner!

In this sweet short animated movie, we watch a friendship develop between a mouse and his elderly “landlord.”

The David Letterman Show, Stupid Pet Tricks

David Letterman seemed to get along better with animals than people. His true delight in this reoccurring Stupid Pet Trick segment was always evident. Enjoy this retro clip from the show’s 1985 season, Caesar’s trick is truly amazing!
