Top Tips for Live Music (for the week beginning January 4th)
Happy New Year, everybody. 2020 was a long year of doing without. Hopefully we are in the last stages of that, and can start to look more optimistically toward the future. In no particular order, ten things I’m looking forward to seeing, hopefully sooner rather than later:
- Upstate Concert Hall’s new home
- Pearlpalooza
- The annual Wheels of Soul tour at SPAC
- Super Dark Mondays and Thursdays
- The Eddies (finally)
- The Music Haven Concert Series
- A Midnight Ramble
- Universal Preservation Hall with a full schedule of shows
- Alive at Five
- The revamped Pauly’s Hotel

Best bet: Troy Music Hall presents The Jayhawks (livestreamed from Minnesota), in what looks to be a very fun matinee this Sunday. While the previous two shows in this series showcased their new album “XOXO” and their classic “The Sound of Lies”, this one will focus on the band’s favorite cover songs. That usually makes for a great time.
