Exploring the roots of Capital District music, the Attic Classic is “Shine Your Light On Me” by Clifton Park native guitar-slinger Matt Smith. It’s on ‘Vol.1 – Upstate NY: 1988-1994‘ of a 4-volume collection of songs curated from previous albums released since the start of Matt’s solo career.
Matt may be best remembered around these parts as a member of the country rock outfit Interstate, local favorite E.B. JEB, and his own band. Matt took his guitars and rode out of town in 1994, first to New York City then landing in Austin Texas where he’s currently based. Accomplished on a wide range of stringed instruments, he’s an in-demand session musician, music instructor, band leader, and producer & engineer as co-owner of 6 String Ranch Studios.
If all that didn’t keep him busy enough, in 2020 Matt released 8 new albums, as well as 10 digital re-releases of his catalog recordings. Of the new albums was the 4-volume set, the first volume covering his time here in upstate New York. “Shine Your Light On Me” is one of three songs featured from the original self-titled Matt Smith Band CD.
