The Beat from Troy Music Hall #74, Ch-Ch-Changes

Dear Readers,
On March 30, 2020, we published the first edition of The Beat. We wanted to stay in touch with you while offering a fun distraction from the pandemic. Now, as things continue to get better, and we are busy planning a full season (yay!), The Beat will be moving to a bi-weekly publishing schedule. Thank you for the kind words and appreciation of our efforts, we are thrilled that you remain connected with us through all this. When we first started publishing, all our content was made by people who were reacting to the pandemic. Over time, as we adjusted to our situation and as things slowly open up, our content has become more of what we find amusing, interesting, educational, and, in general, simply entertaining. To honor our beginnings, this week we have pulled videos from the first few editions. Watch to see how far we’ve come! We hope to see you all soon.
Thank you,
The staff of the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

Our First Video! Edition #1, 3/30/20

Our lives have been upended, with so many of us staying home, working from home, and homeschooling (if you’re doing both, you are a superhero.) This is a new journey for all of us and we are on it with you. To help make it a little easier, every week we’ll send you videos and links of great music and irreverent links to fun content. A little escapism from our current situation.

Volume #4, 4/15/20, The John Prine Edition

We dedicated this edition to John Prine, the quintessential Americana singer-songwriter who’d lost his battle with Covid-19 the week prior.

The Late Show with Stephen ColbertBrandi Carlile knew John Prine well, and here she pays tribute to John’s musical and cultural legacy with an at-home performance of his 1971 song, “Hello In There.”

Volume 3, 4/11/20, The Recipe Edition

If you don’t watch the chefs from the Bon Appetit YouTube channel you should definitely start. Here they make 13 Kinds of Pantry Pasta from the safety of their own homes, with ingredients you probably have on hand. We are pairing it with an Italian song from Raul Malo of the Mavericks, and thanks Melissa for sending us the video!

Volume #7, 4/25/20, Broadway

Broadway Star Salutes Healthcare WorkersWith Nightly Window ConcertsThroughout NYC, cheers start nightly at 7 PM as people applaud their local heroes, the city’s healthcare workers. Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell, who recently recovered from Covid-19, adds more than applause as he performs nightly from his apartment window.

Volume #5, 4/18/20, Entertaining Ourselves

We are throwing this video in as a bonus, which was originally posted on Twitter by @hamlinton_ with the caption “my dad sent me this and i am LOSING MY MIND” Trust us, watch to the end!

Volume #6, 4/22/20
