LIVE: Jon LeRoy Trio @ Jazz on Jay, 07/29/2021

Well, it’s lunchtime on Thursdays in Downtown Schenectady in the summer. So it’s time for Jazz on Jay at the corner of Jay St and State St., rain or shine. This week’s performance was once again moved onto the porch of Johnny’s to err on the side of caution.  That was the wise decision, as it did begin to rain around 1 PM, most of the audience was already underneath the canopy with the rest moving in at the advent of the rain.

This week’s artists were the Jon LeRoy Trio. The combo was a classic organ, guitar, drums combo. We were treated to a steady stream of familiar pop tunes done in classic organ trio style. Old hits that boomers grew up to include “Sunny”, ”Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, “Find 100 Ways” and “Feel Like Making Love” was mixed with older standards such as “C Jam Blues”, “Autumn Leaves” and “Misty”.  A singer/violinist sat in and sang a few songs including a novelty song from the 30s made famous by Blossom Dearie “Rhode Island is the Place for You”.

Now if it only stops raining on our outdoor concerts in Nippertown, Upstate NY would be the place for us.
