LIVE: David Wax Museum @ Caffe Lena, 02/25/2022

It was a family affair Friday night at Caffe Lena as husband and wife David Wax and Suz Slezak performed accompanied by longtime collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Alec Spiegelman. The couple are the core members of David Wax Museum and they bring their two young children along when they tour. Their performance was warm and casual, even asking for song suggestions from the crowd.

The band has just released its eighth album Remember My Future and featured the upbeat “Juniper Jones” early in the show. The album was created during the pandemic and produced by Spiegelman. They describe their blend of Mexican son music and Americana as “Mexo-Americana”.
Songs from Slezak’s soon-to-be-released debut solo album Our Wings May Be Featherless were also performed including “Take Me” a deeply personal meditation on a difficult childbirth that she sang solo with piano.

The band encored with a lovely cover of The Grateful Dead’s “Cassidy”.
