Death Cab for Cutie to Play Poughkeepsie in July

WOODSTOCK –  It was announced that this will be a rare area appearance by Death Cab for Cutie on Saturday, July 16th at the newly renovated MJN Convention Center in Poughkeepsie. Also featured will be Illuminati Hotties.

Death Cab for Cutie is an American alternative rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band is composed of Benjamin Gibbard, Nick Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper, and Zac Rae. The platinum-selling band has been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album in 2015. The 2018 Radio Woodstock Top 100 includes two songs, “Gold Rush” and “Northern Lights”. In December 2020, ahead of the run-off elections in Georgia, the band released The Georgia E.P., featuring covers of iconic artists from the state. Originally released as a 24-hour Bandcamp exclusive, the EP raised over $100K for Fair Fight Action, Stacey Abrams’ voting rights organization promoting fair elections around the country through voter education, election reform, and combating voter suppression. Their 2022 festival tour dates include Beale Street Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. NPR Music says, “For a band in its third decade, Death Cab hasn’t lost its gift for pairing Gibbard’s soft ruminations with propulsive arrangements that know just when to sparkle and sway. But even more importantly, Gibbard himself still sings with a sense of purpose, keenly articulating a distinct swirl of nostalgia, loss and hope for new beginnings.”

The album has received critical-acclaim from The New York Times, Pitchfork, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and American Songwriter.

Gary Chetkof, Radio Woodstock’s principal owner and the President of Chet-5 Productions, whose affiliated companies founded and co-produced the Mountain Jam, Taste of Country, Speed of Sound Festivals said “Death Cab has been played on our radio for over 20 years, and we are so excited to be able to finally bring them to the Hudson Valley.  The multi million dollar renovations at the MJN Convention Center, complete with amazing acoustical sound improvements, enticed us to want to showcase the band at this venue.  We look forward to bringing many more shows there this year and beyond.”
