Nippertown’s March Music Madness Continues to the Elite Eight

Nippertown’s “March ‘Music’ Madness” rolls out into Week 4 of its friendly competition, and the field of artists going after prizes has been reduced to only eight.

Fans of the local scene continue to be passionate about their favorite artists as voting was tight and the money rounds became a reality.

Be sure to give all the bands a listen, because each round is worth at least $100 and more cool prizes. Voting has been extremely close. Last week one contest was dead even with only five hours before the polls closed.

Always remember to support all the talented local artists, visit their Bandcamp pages, check into their websites or social media, and give a listen. Go see them live and buy merch, and if you like what you hear – share them with your friends and family. Music is love, so spread the love.

Let’s meet the artists that are competing in this round…

Bands/ArtistsLinks
Erin Harkes : She’s a singer/songwriter. She’s a full-time musician. She’s also a part-time standup comedian. Erin began writing her own songs at age 19 and has released four albums of original material since then.
ShortWave RadioBand : A power trio, writing original music and paying tribute to the great bands of yesteryear. If it’s vintage, if it’s classic, if it’s retro or if it’s rock, don’t touch that dial, keep it tuned to SWRB.
Pony in the Pancake : Over the years PIP has amassed a faithful following. Their live sound is a psychedelic juggernaut, “the sweet spot where the propulsion of the Velvet Underground, the wide-eyed romanticism and surf twang of the Beach Boys and the elliptical grooves of Krautrock intersect.” -Chronogram
Caity Gallagher: A folk singer-songwriter with rootsy compositions and lilting vocal lines serve to showcase intimate lyrics that tell universally relatable stories. As a founding member of the pop-rock/folk band, Honey Slider, Caity spent the past year honing her individual sound, and recording her debut solo EP.
Glass Pony : A unique and entertaining experience with a focus on live performances that incorporate danceable grooves, interesting setlists, and creative and compelling improvisation. With a wide variety of influences, Glass Pony mixes originality with engaging covers of deep-cut and fan-favorite tunes.
Side-B : Four-piece alternative rock band formed in their early teenage years and began performing at local music venues across the Capital Region. They bonded over a shared love for classic rock acts like Led Zeppelin and The Police along with modern alternative bands like Weezer and Vampire Weekend.
Bad Mothers : Bad Mothers is a dirty-rock band from Albany, heralded for their consistently hard-hitting performances. They always put on a strong performance on stage, and have come close to opening Pearlpalooza not once, but twice.
Girl Blue : Arielle O’Keefe’s solo acts showcase her intimate songwriting style. She possesses a distinct singing voice that flows from conversation to something of a songbird as it flutters in range.

Round 4 voting started at 10 a.m. (today) Wednesday, March 16th, and polls close at midnight on Saturday, March 19th. Bands who advance will be announced every Wednesday in The Spot 518 newspaper, as well as on Nippertown.com.
