LIVE: The Soul Rebels/Victory Soul Orchestra @ Lark Hall, 03/30/2022
The Soul Rebels stepped right up onto the Lark Hall stage and SLAPPED — in the very best sense of the word! The New Orleans eight-piece brought the party with their eclectic mix of soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, rock and pop for this stop on their Epic Vibes tour. The Soul Rebels have a 30 year history and consist of percussionists and founding members Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss, trumpet players Julian Gosin and Marcus Hubbard, trombonists Corey Peyton and Paul Robertson, saxophonist Erion Williams, and sousaphonist Manuel Perkins Jr. When’s the last time you got rocked by a sousaphone? The Rebel’s deep love for traditional second-line and brass band music was evident as the joyful crowd danced and swayed. The only thing missing was Mardi Gras beads being thrown from the balcony. Hardcore horn with in-your-face brass. Glorious.

Albany’s brass-funk, hip-hop, soul and rock favorites Victory Soul Orchestra already had the joint pulsating. The ten-piece fronted by Dirty Moses and singer Dali Soto were a great pairing with the headliners. 10+8=shout out to the soundboard at Lark Hall who kept it together and laissez les bon temps rouler!
