The Attic Classic: All through the 70’s right into the 80’s there were nightclubs and discos playing the hottest dance hits. Lighted dance floors (and ceilings!), stage lights, strobes, fog machines and yes, the ever-popular mirror ball enhanced the throbbing beats spun by DJ’s. There were also bands playing those funky r&b and soul pop grooves from club and lounge stages for their audiences listening and dancing pleasure.
The six musicians who called themselves CAKE were one such band. They were originally known as “Mixed Company,” based on being a racially mixed band. They changed the name in 1973 after lineup tweaks finally gave them the sweet ingredients they’d been after.
CAKE recorded a single in 1979 at Arabellum Studios in Colonie. Over the years interest in the single, which mimicked the hit sounds of the day, kept popping up world-wide. In 2017 the songwriting pair of Bob Treffiletti and Bobby Zampino signed a record company contract, making fresh copies available once again.
Time to put on your boogie shoes, knock off the rust on your late-night dance moves. Classically fresh CAKE has the Attic Classic with “Let Your Body Go“ from their 1979 single.
