LIVE: Wine Lips/Galene @ No Fun, 04/22/2022
With guitars strapped high and sideburns grown low Canada’s Wine Lips ripped through a nonstop set of punk rock garage psychedelica at No Fun in Troy on Friday night. The Toronto-based foursome tore through songs from their third full-length album “Mushroom Death Sex Bummer Party” and more. With Cam Hilborn on vocals and engaging in fast, fuzzy guitar freak-outs with Jordan Sosensky and backed by powerhouse drummer Aurora Evans and steadfast bassist Charlie Ware, Wine Lips left a groovy, reverberating stain.
“We are a nautical-themed band, anyone out there not drinking water is a poseur!”, exclaimed bassist Taran Schaefer from opener Galene. Galene is the goddess of calm seas in Greek mythology. The indie/post-punk Albany band also features Nick Tirado on lead vocals and guitar and Harris Eisenhardt on drums. Like the sea, their compelling originals went from tranquil to crashing within the same song. The band is in the process of recording their first album which should be promising based on their performance at this show presented by Super Dark Collective.
