Rufus Wainwright Will Break the Rules at Troy Music Hall, October 1st

TROY – Rufus Wainwright brings his Unfollow the Rules tour to the Troy Music Hall on October 1st! After his Unfollow the Rules band tour of 2021 and 2022, Rufus is now touring solo with a selection of songs from his latest pop album, covers and other songs from his vast repertoire.

Rufus Wainwright

Praised by the New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists, songwriters, and composers of his generation. The New York-born, Montreal-raised singer-songwriter has released ten studio albums to date, three DVDs, and three live albums including the GRAMMY®-nominated Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall. He has collaborated with artists such as Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Robert Wilson, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell, Pet Shop Boys, Heart, Robbie Williams, Jessye Norman, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Sting, and producer Mark Ronson, among many others. He has written two operas, numerous songs for movies and TV, and is currently working on his first musical. His recent GRAMMY® and JUNO nominated album, Unfollow the Rules, finds Wainwright at the peak of his powers, entering artistic maturity with passion, honesty, and a new-found fearlessness.

Since the release of Unfollow the Rules, Wainwright has released a paired down acoustic version of said album recorded at Los Angeles’ Paramour Mansion during the height of the first wave of Covid, a couple of electronic tracks with Ampersound, and a live album Rufus Wainwright & Amsterdam Sinfonietta with material ranging from Jacques Brel to Joni Mitchell, from Rameau to Leonard Cohen.

Carsie Blanton

Opening the show will be Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Carsie Blanton. Blanton writes anthems for a world worth saving. Inspired by artists including Nina Simone and John Prine, Carsie delivers every song with an equal dose of moxie and mischief, bringing her audience together in joyful celebration of everything worth fighting for.
