Musicians of Ma’alwyck to Present “Gainsborough’s Secret Passion”, Nov. 13

ALBANY – Musicians of Ma’alwyck presents its first live concert season since 2020, continuing with our concert on Nov. 13: Gainsborough’s Secret Passion, with two performances at the Schuyler Mansion.

Thomas Gainsborough is widely considered one of the great British artists of the late 18th century, as almost everyone, art lover or not, would recognize his 1770 painting The Blue Boy. But Gainsborough was a passionate lover of music, so devoted to the viola da gamba that he owned several instruments, and yearned to have time away from painting to make music. He enjoyed the company and friendship of some of the greatest musicians in England in the mid to late 1700s, including Johann Christian Bach and Karl Abel. One of his daughters married the famous oboist Johann Fischer. He painted many of these composers, singers, and instrumentalists. Our program will highlight the musicians of Gainsborough’s circle and feature Norman Thibodeau, flute; Sten Isachsen, guitar; Andre Laurent O’Neil, cello; and Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, violin and director.

The concert will take place on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm with a reception between concerts. The concert location is Schuyler Mansion New York State Historic Site, 32 Catherine Street, Albany NY 12202.

Tickets are $40 for general admission and $10 for students. To purchase tickets, visit: www.https://musiciansofmaalwyck.org/home
