The Queen’s Cartoonists Give a “Holiday Hurrah” at Universal Preservation Hall, Dec. 22

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Coming to Universal Preservation Hall on Thursday, Dec. 22, is The Queen’s Cartoonists. Presenting their seasonal program, Holiday Hurrah, and combining nostalgic cartoons with music and parody, The Queen’s Cartoonists are sure to deliver an animated night of entertainment!

Keenly aware of all things holiday-oriented and completely ridiculous, musical ensemble The Queen’s Cartoonists have set out to find the best of the best (and best of the worst) holiday-related cartoons, films, and jazz!

The show includes traditional holiday vocal numbers (“White Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” “Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah,” etc), paired with jazz arrangements and classic cartoon characters (Betty Boop, Bugs Bunny, Popeye the Sailor Man, Porky Pig, and more). There’s also a good amount of novelty comedy numbers, props, sound effects, and jokes. And, they haven’t forgotten to include your daily dose of screwball holiday classics, like “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”!

The Queen’s Cartoonists play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation. The performances are synchronized to video projections of the original films, and the band leads the audience through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem, and comedy.

They are an incredible band with very tight precision… Whether you are 15 or 85, they are playing music from cartoons that we all remember growing up watching.

Behind the project is a single question: is it possible to create jazz and classical music in the 21st century that appeals to everyone? Even people who normally wouldn’t go to concerts? The Queen’s Cartoonists present a concert for everybody – regardless of age, gender, or familiarity with the concert hall.

Tying this diverse concert together are comedic anecdotes involving the cartoons and their composers. The band is on a musical mission of equal parts performance, preservation, and education. Expect the unexpected from a repertoire that includes the Golden Age of animation, cult cartoon classics, modern animation, and elements of a musical circus!

Since their inception in 2015, The Queen’s Cartoonists have brought their unique sound to performing arts centers in over 20 states, and have opened for the New York Philharmonic. The six members, all currently living in Queens, New York, are world-class professional musicians. The band has been featured in numerous major publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, Mashable, and on NPR.

The show starts at 7:30 pm. Ticket prices range from $30.50 to $50.50, and can be purchased by clicking the link here.
