Proctors Airing Three Leading Oscar-Contending Films

SCHENECTADY – On Jan. 5, Proctors will usher in the Awards Season with a screening of Todd Field’s “TAR.” The film is widely considered a leading contender for the Best Actress award, for Cate Blanchett’s titular portrayal of composer-conductor Lydia Tar. Two more screenings of Oscar and Golden Globe contenders classics will follow on Jan. 12 and Jan. 19.

Set in the international world of Western classical music, the film centers on renowned musician Lydia Tár, who is days away from recording the symphony that will elevate her career. When all elements seem to conspire against her, Lydia’s adopted daughter Petra becomes an integral emotional support for her struggling mother.

Additional films to be screened are:

Jan. 12: Ruben Ostlund’s black comedy, “Triangle of Sadness”

Jan. 19: Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy, “The Banshees of Insherin”


Screenings take place in the GE Theatre, are general admission, and begin at 7 pm. Tickets are $9, with discounts for seniors, students, and children.
