Grammy-Winning Arrested Development to Headline Schenectady County SummerNight 2023

Arrested Development, a two-time Grammy-winning hip-hop group, has been announced as the headliner for Schenectady County SummerNight. The event will take place on Friday, July 14, 2023, in downtown Schenectady. Presented by Rivers Casino & Resort, with support from Saratoga Eagle, this free and family-friendly summer block party will be held on State Street between Broadway and Barrett Street, as well as on Jay Street, where you’ll find a vibrant collection of eateries and shops.

Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Committee on Tourism, Arts & Special Events for the Schenectady County Legislature, expressed enthusiasm about bringing Arrested Development to headline the Capital Region’s biggest summer block party. Residents and visitors are invited to join in the festivities, enjoying live music, delicious food, and fun games for all ages in downtown Schenectady on July 14.

The event will feature a special reunion performance by The Stockade Kids, who haven’t played together since 2016. DJ Ketchup and DJ HollyW8D will also be there to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop. Arrested Development, the main act, will take the stage around 8:30 p.m., followed by a grand finale with Price Chopper & Market 32 fireworks. The Sunmark Credit Union Stage will showcase live musical performances by Whits End, Girl Blue, and Grand Central Station starting at 5:00 p.m.

Starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning, there will be a captivating sand sculpture sponsored by CDTA, created right before everyone’s eyes.

Joe Lodise, General Manager of Rivers Casino & Resort, expressed excitement about partnering with Schenectady County as the presenting sponsor for this fantastic summer block party. He invited everyone to downtown Schenectady on July 14 for a remarkable night filled with live music, food, fireworks, and fun.

The newly expanded Best Fitness/MVP Health Care Kids Zone, located on Jay Street in front of City Hall, will offer a variety of kid-friendly activities. Kids of all ages will interact with puppeteers, circus clowns, sculptors, and visual artists. There will be a dozen opportunities to test drive a new art form, whether it’s in music, painting, sculpting and dance. The Schenectady City Fire Department’s Smoke House will provide potential life-saving tips on what to do if kids wake up to the sounds of a smoke alarm while the tiny home fills with fog to simulate smoke. Kids will then be invited in to navigate the hallways.

While Arrested Development takes the headline, the spotlight will also shine on the city’s finest food during Schenectady County SummerNight. Downtown restaurants and vendors will be selling delicious food, drinks, and desserts throughout the event. To ensure attendees don’t miss a moment of excitement, many establishments will extend their operations outdoors, allowing visitors to enjoy the festivities while restaurants and shops remain open for business.

Rivers Casino and Resort, along with Saratoga Eagle, presents Schenectady County SummerNight in partnership with the City of Schenectady. The event also receives additional support from MVP Health Care, Price Chopper/Market 32, Sunmark CU, CDTA, and Best Fitness.
