The Egg presents Blackmore’s Night – like, how much more black could this be?
ALBANY – Neo-medieval folk rock band Blackmore’s Night is set to take the stage at The Egg on October 27th. The band’s main members include Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night (get it?), the only two constant members with the band’s lineup undergoing numerous transformations throughout the years. To date, Blackmore and Night have launched 11 studio albums under the moniker.
Blackmore, a renowned guitarist and songwriter, started practicing music in a professional manner by initially working as a session musician, working with artists such as Glenda Collins, Screaming Lord Sutch, and Jerry Lee Lewis, showcasing enormous versatility. He was a founding member of Deep Purple in 1968, playing jam-style hard rock music that mixed guitar riffs and organ sounds. From here on, Blackmore started his solo career by founding the neo-classical hard rock band Rainbow. In 1997, Blackmore took a new musical direction by forming Blackmore’s Night.
Candice Night sang backup vocals for prominent names such as Deep Purple, William Shatner and the aforementioned Rainbow early in her career. It was this turn in Blackmore’s first band that led her to fronting Blackmore’s Night. From here out, Night embraced the Renaissance-type sound and incorporated it within her vocals.
In addition to the two founding members, Blackmore’s Night’s current lineup also includes Earl Grey of Chimay (bass, mandolin, guitar), Bard David of Larchmont (keyboard, accordion, harpsichord, pipe organ), Scarlet Fiddler (violin), and Troubador of Aberdeen (Percussion), who help to create the minstrel sound of the band, a true sonic masterpiece.
Blackmore’s Night will play at The Egg (Agency Building 1, S Mall Arterial, Albany, NY 12203) on Friday, October 27th. The band will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. For more information visit https://tickets.theegg.org/TheatreManager/98/login&performance=112173
